People We Adore: Meet Jenny Lory

A: I’m Jenny Lory, the heart behind Lory Lace LLC , a wellness-focused home fragrance brand born from my own healing journey with anxiety. I was born in Haiti, now based in South Florida, and for a long time, I was just trying to hold everything together as a woman, a mother, and a creative.

During the pandemic, I finally opened a candle-making kit that had been sitting in my closet for months. What began as a simple project quickly turned into a ritual: blending wax, choosing oils, and crafting scents with intention helped calm my nervous system and bring small moments of joy back into heavy days. I started sharing my candles with my meditation group, and seeing how a single flame could shift the energy in a room is what sparked Lory Lace.

Today, I handcraft organic soy candles and home fragrances designed to do more than just smell beautiful. Each scent is created to support emotional well-being to help you slow down, breathe deeper, and create little pockets of peace in the middle of real life.

A: My superpower is turning emotions into scent, like taking a feeling and translating it into a fragrance that helps you soften, slow down, and breathe.

One day, when my anxiety felt especially heavy, I intuitively went to my pouring station and blended what I needed: something warm, grounding, and comforting. When I lit that candle later, the energy in the room shifted, and my whole body exhaled. I later shared that same scent with someone in my meditation community, and she told me, “When I light this, I feel like I can finally breathe again.” That’s when I knew this gift wasn’t just for me; it was meant to hold space for others, too.

This version of me is unapologetically herself. And I think that is what I bring to every candle I make: an honesty, a warmth, a refusal to rush. When I am in the process of creating, I am fully present. And the people who light these candles feel that. They tell me it is the first thing they reach for when they need to come back to themselves. That is everything.

A:My self-care always starts with slowing down enough to actually feel my body and my breath. For me, that looks like a mix of going on a nature trail, walking by the water, and small scent-related rituals that help me come back to myself.

Living in Florida, the beach is one of my favorite sacred spaces; I don't get to go as often, so I created this Sunday sunrise ritual where I get to Miami Beach right before sunrise, get some jasmine tea, walk by the boardwalk, and allow the sound and scent of the sea to relax and heal me. I believe in slow mornings above almost everything else. The pace of the beginning of your day sets the tone for all of it.

Creating — pouring, blending, crafting — is its own meditation for me. My hands in the work, the fragrance rising, the intention behind every batch. That is where I find myself again.

A:I most identify with the (Solar Plexus) because it represents personal power, happiness,, and the courage to trust your own path. One of the reasons I wear yellow often is to help me embody that work. So much of my journey, from starting Lory Lace to sharing my healing story publicly, has been about learning to stand in my truth, own my voice, and move from “Who am I to do this?” to “ My voice matters and can help another when I share.”

The Heart Chakra also runs deeply through my work — because ultimately every Lory Lace candle is made with love. Love for the craft, love for the people who will light them, and love for the idea that wellness can be as simple and as beautiful as a flame.
