People We Adore: Meet Marilyn Yang

I’m M.YANG, an entrepreneur-turned-house music DJ and producer blending high energy, groovy tech house with emotional, melodic EDM influences based in Miami, FL and NYC. Host of M.YANG M.GANG Sessions, a premier Miami-based radio and house music/fitness events series, I bring a fresh, authentic storytelling approach to every set, channeling my lifelong love of electronic music. I specialize in daytime/nightlife environments, experiential activations, pop-ups, and branded environments, having partnered with events and venues including Breakaway Carolina, Soho House, Public Hotel, Hard Rock Cafe, Loosie’s, Unveiled, and more.

My goal is to create sets and music that feel both energizing and emotional, the kind that make you remember who you were with, what you felt, and why the moment mattered. I want every mix to tell a story. I’m inspired by the music that shaped my early festival and club experiences and the melodic, uplifting sounds that define modern EDM. Becoming M.YANG is about honoring my past, embracing my creativity, and sharing a journey that’s still unfolding in real time.

Resilience! Hearing “no” has never stopped me personally or professionally. Actually a great example is how I initially became a DJ; I actually almost didn’t become a DJ at all, in fact! While I’m a lifelong music lover and tried to teach myself how to DJ multiple times in the past, I didn’t really dive in completely until I participated in a DJ competition called Your Shot in 2025.

I had received a social media ad to apply for Your Shot, and there was an in-person interview component to be able to participate. Unfortunately, I wasn’t in town on the interview/selection day (and the application highlighted in several areas that you couldn’t be chosen unless you were able to attend the interview/selection day in person), but I decided to film a video interview and send it in just to see what would happen. And lo and behold, I was chosen from that as a finalist for Your Shot, which is what jumpstarted my DJ and production career.

The gym! I’m a fitness junkie and prioritize getting some sort of movement in for both physical and mental health, even if it’s just a quick walk, every day. I like to mix it up between low impact and high impact activities, as well as between group classes, lifting, and sports such as tennis and golf. I’ve found that some of the best ideas and inspiration I’ve gotten has been during some sort of workout or physical activity.

I recently had my first Aura Reveal experience and my most active chakras were the Crown Chakra and the Third Eye Chakra with violet and indigo as my primary aura colors. I was initially somewhat surprised by my reading, but upon reflection it connects a lot of dots for me. I've always felt a spiritual connection to music and the arts from a young age, and my recent focus on my DJing and production journey has really shifted some of my identity back to those roots. In particular, I’ve never wanted to be defined by just one identity. I’m a founder, investor, and now DJ/producer, and each chapter has added another layer to who I am. Becoming a DJ/producer wasn’t about leaving my previous identities behind; it was about giving myself permission to pursue another side of my creativity and ambition. M.YANG is about embracing the fact that I can be multifaceted, build different things, and continually reinvent myself without having to fit into one box, and hopefully inspire others to do the same.
